The amazing make-up artists at M.A.C.

We’re continually amazed by couture. It seems the one place where fashion stays fashion–pure and untinged by mass marketing. Who wants wearable when you can have a true impact? And it’s at the couture shows where hairstylists and make-up artists truly get to shine. We scoured them all to come up with our fave looks from the runways.

  1. Jean Paul Gaultier
    Tall updos and Hollywood glamour.
  2. Chanel
Bows and flowers made out of loose hair strands.
  3. Givenchy
    Rhinestones and sequins on faces.
  4. Christian Lacroix
    Shimmer eyes and peachy cheeks.
  5. Christian Dior
Different lip and eye shadow combos.

Too much for Vancouver nightlife? We disagree. Let’s inspire.

The Bay

Our Dress for Success Purse Fundraiser is inspiring us this week. Here’s a look at what some of our favourite designers showed for Spring 2009 bags.

  • Marc Jacobs showed multi-layered skins and prints, and quilted totes with sporty stripes, and one in green-and-red check.
  • Vera Wang’s sober colours-white, black, grey, and silver-popped beneath heavy chains and snap-tops.
  • Chanel’s carrier bags-sturdy, keep-for-life versions of the paper shopping purchase bags are a study in tongue-in-cheek chic.
  • Jil Sander’s bright blue satchel and white with orange-strip weekender are casual yet innovative enough to be fashionable.

Karl Leaving Chanel?

Movers & Shakers
by Lindsey, June 26th, 2009

Rumours have been flying that Karl Lagerfeld is leaving Chanel, as an unrenewed contract sat waiting for his signature. There was even talk of Alber Elbaz from Lanvin replacing him. As of press time, a Chanel rep had confirmed that the Keiser is not, repeat, not, leaving the company. Phew.

Man With More
Lagerfeld’s been Chanel’s art director since 1983, but that’s not all. He’s illustrated Hans Christian Anderson’s The Emperor’s New Clothes, and has created opera costumes for La Scala, the Florence opera house, the Burgtheater of Vienna, and costumes for the Salzburg festival and the Monte-Carlo ballet.

We’re wondering if the work with Audrey Tautou, on the Chanel biopic, is done…

LET’S HEAR IT
If Karl did leave, who do you think could replace him?
