Completely Coco (Rocha)

Movers & Shakers
by Lindsey, June 29th, 2009

When Richmond’s own Coco Rocha dyed her hair red, it was such big news VOGUE covered the transition. Her agent warned her it was bad timing. Now, she’s back to (almost) black.

Coco on the Rise
As is by now legend, Coco was discovered at an Irish dance competition. Soon, fashion photog and model-maker Steven Meisel fell for her (platonically, of course) and Coco landed on the cover of VOGUE Italia. Runway appearances for Marc Jacobs, Versace, Prada, Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton, Anna Sui, Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel, Balenciaga and more soon followed. And then Jean Paul Gaultier asked her to dance down the runway to open and close his Fall 2007 show. Her shoes arrived a mere two hours before curtain call. Her rise to uber model status arrived mere moments after that.

Right to Red
Right on the crest of her extreme popularity, Coco decided she wanted to go red, telling VOGUE that she felt she’d fit in better with her auburn-tressed friends and family. Her agent tried to talk her out of it, but she did it anyway. Now, she’s gone back to black. Just check out this video clip from E! online.

Hmm, we wonder if Coco’s hair colour choice was causing her income to head in that direction, too…

p.s. Check out Coco’s blog. And, we love the intro on her website.

LET’S HEAR IT
Was it a bad move to go red?

Karl Leaving Chanel?

Movers & Shakers
by Lindsey, June 26th, 2009

Rumours have been flying that Karl Lagerfeld is leaving Chanel, as an unrenewed contract sat waiting for his signature. There was even talk of Alber Elbaz from Lanvin replacing him. As of press time, a Chanel rep had confirmed that the Keiser is not, repeat, not, leaving the company. Phew.

Man With More
Lagerfeld’s been Chanel’s art director since 1983, but that’s not all. He’s illustrated Hans Christian Anderson’s The Emperor’s New Clothes, and has created opera costumes for La Scala, the Florence opera house, the Burgtheater of Vienna, and costumes for the Salzburg festival and the Monte-Carlo ballet.

We’re wondering if the work with Audrey Tautou, on the Chanel biopic, is done…

LET’S HEAR IT
If Karl did leave, who do you think could replace him?
