Whether you are an avid baseball fan or just a casual attendee, Nat Bailey Stadium awaits. I headed down for a glimpse of the baseball world and, from the moment I entered the stadium, I could feel the excitement and joy. It’s the kind of feeling you can only experience in a place where thousands of cheering people are passing by in all directions.
The smell of hot dogs and popcorn were in the air as people found their seats and the players took to the field. The Vancouver Canadians know not only how to throw a ball, but also how to put on a fantastic show. I started to think about everything that goes on behind the scene – and off the field – to make this a success. The stadium is in perfect condition and everything was extremely well thought-out. For a little more information, I spoke with the club’s General Manager Andrew Seymour.

What can you tell us about Nat Bailey Stadium and its current state?
We are always looking for a facelift. A coat of fresh paint was just done. Little details make a big impact.
The stadium is almost full! What strategies or promotion do you use to get so many spectators?
Fifty one hundred spectators today! It is all about quality and entertainment: “Family Fun Sundays”. We pay attention to all kinds of spectators, for example: young fans, [making] sure they grow up loving baseball games. Of course, we also have lots of events to promote our games, especially because we rely a lot on the weather.
How is the team doing so far this season?
The Canadians always seem to keep the same record. There are ups and downs: 34 wins and 35 losses. Our main priority is to entertain and make sure the audience has a great time whether [the team] wins or loses.

As a style agent I must ask, where do the players get their uniforms? Who designs them?
Rawlings is the company that makes them. As a team we all make sure we choose a sharp look. In February 2008, a new logo was launched to appear on the uniforms. There are three jerseys: one for home games, one for away games and…one for practices.
From your experience of coming to a million baseball games, what do you think is the perfect outfit to wear as a spectator?
Comfortable! I’m sorry but no dresses. Make sure to dress so you can sit high up without being uncomfortable. Jeans and a t-shirt – or, if the weather lets you, wear shorts!
Andrew Seymour’s words were perfect: “casual cool”. Even at the Vancouver Canadians’ merchandise booth at the stadium, I was impressed by the variety of clothing styles. They even offer baby clothes for sale – complete with the Canadians logo.

Get Your Own Game Gear
Find a great pair of shorts or jeans and a stylish t-shirt. Ladies, por favor, don’t look for dresses or skirts for a baseball game. Instead take a peek at Banana Republic or Jacob. Guys, set out for Tommy Bahama, Harry Rosen, and Lacoste. To outfit kids for the big day on the diamond, there is Gymboree and Gap Kids. For everyone attending, a hat is a “must”. Also, whip through Zellers or The Bay where you can buy sunblock – in case the sun is shining! Be comfortable and make sure you are up to have fun, because I guarantee the joy of Nat Bailey Stadium will take over!
